"This poem was inspired by an actual event, where thanks to instinctual parental reflexes tragedy was avoided.  The poem reflects on what the reflex for self-preservation reveals regarding the relationship between self-perception, self-projection, love, and sacrifice. The conjecture that emerges is that it may not be love which we project onto others but rather our sense of self which we project, and love naturally follows."
